Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
-- Marianne Williamson.
We limit ourselves all the time. It is tragic.
If you haven't yet read the last step Fear Is the Misuse of Imagination and played with it at least once, return there now. This Fundamental Secret will make more sense if you do.
This step is based on the same premise as the last chapter. And yes, you still need to put this in writing.
I limit myself by imagining __________________.
Here's an example from my life. I was on the eve of publishing my e-manual, Simply Serene - Four Amazingly Powerful Ways to Be Instantly Alert and at Peace, and I was limiting myself.
Here's what I wrote:
I limit myself by imagining:
- Only 103 people will like the book.
- No one will find it.
- I will fail at marketing it.
- There will be a burst of activity, 60 will sell then a pitiful struggle until all 103 are sold.
- People will think the book is, "OK, but, so what." They won't recommend it to others.
- People will give it away to others. The book will be pirated.
What I notice and am always surprised at is how specific and how detailed my fears and limitations are. Don't worry if they are contradictory. Don't worry about it at all. We just want to flush them out into the open. Now, as in the last chapter, we will re-imagine.
I prefer to imagine, I choose to imagine _______________.
Here's what I wrote. I have left these new images unedited, so you could see the raw process. I might go on at a later point and refine the images. Over time, the new images will take on a life of their own and refine themselves:
I prefer to imagine, I choose to imagine:
- The book takes on a life of its own and flies with strength, courage, and clarity into peoples hearts. They happily purchase copies for themselves and multiple copies for their employees, colleagues, and friends.
- People want to collaborate with me to promote and sell the book. They come out of the woodwork, emerging from the heart of the world to sell and promote the book much more effectively than I, to promote it beautifully.
- The book calls forth its own helpers to assist it in speaking to all for whom it is their destiny to receive its information and its blessings.
Again, this is pretty specific and varied. I just relaxed and let come what may. You do the same.
Work with this by reading your new imaginings once or twice a day. I like to read it just before bed so my subconscious can play with it. You will also notice that each of these is like a little story. Stories are very hypnotic, so pick a good one.
Play with this, bust some limits and get ready for the next secret. Blessings on you.
